In Pursuit of the Great White Rabbit: Reflections on a Practical Spirituality
Published in Paperback by Forest of Peace Books (November, 1990)
Average review score:

How to experience God made easyEvery time I think that Edward Hays can't write another good book, he does! In this busy day and age this book is easy to pick up and read for however brief a time you may have. (Then there's the time needed to let it sink in). Each short chapter is filled to the brim with excellent, thought provoking material. As with his other writings I know that I will return to it and read it several times. How often we pursue something only to give up. Fr. Hays makes it all seem so simple. I attended a workshop where a well known speaker presented two very interesting scenarios from movies with accompanying clips. Both of them were taken from the first two chapters of this book with Fr. Hays' reflections! What better affirmation? If you are hungry for God or want to deepen your understanding of Him, this is a must. But, watch out. It just mught turn you on to this fantastic writer!

In the Company of Light (Concord Library Book)
Published in Paperback by Beacon Press (March, 1999)
Average review score:

The one piece of nature writing you must have.John Hay's "In The Company of Light" is a book that you will read over and over, finding new insight into the wonders of the natural world each time. Hay is the Dean of Cape Cod nature writing and his verse is never more inspiring as in his latest book, released in the year of his 82nd birthday. Hay chronicles the timeless natural mysteries that the seasons bring outside the door of his summer home in Mid-coast Maine and to the former "worthless woodlot" on Cape Cod where he lives for the remainder of the year. Like Henry Beston's "The Outermost House" this book celebrates the cycles of the solar year and its stunning hallmarks. Whether he is writing about the company of swallows nesting in his barn in Maine or the strange glow emanating from the mushrooms in the woodpile on Cape Cod, Hay speaks for the reader's unarticulated awe for and love of the multitudes of life forms with whom we share the planet. This book is the one piece of nature writing, above all others, that you must have in your collection.

Inside Lincoln's White House: The Complete Civil War Diary of John Hay
Published in Paperback by Southern Illinois Univ Pr (Txt) (March, 1999)
Average review score:

Unique insights.Hay, the young Assistant Presidential Secretary, was like a son to Lincoln. The President, in the diary often affectionately and irreverently referred to as "The Tycoon", relaxed around Hay as around few others, giving the diarist an insight into the character of Lincoln which is almost unique. This alone would make the book worthwhile, but Hay's views on other personalities and events of those dramatic days are also valuable, and engagingly written.
Hay's diary has been published before, but incomplete and poorly edited. This is the first complete edition, with all the entries restored and with extensive explanatory notes, which are necesary to follow Hay's refernces to obscure persons and events.
Essential for the Lincoln scholar and highly recommended for anyone's Civil War shelf.

Interpreting Dreams A-Z (Hay House Lifestyles.)
Published in Hardcover by Hay House (July, 1999)
Average review score:

Fantastic illustrationsNot only is this a useful index of the archetypes, but the illustrations in this book are creative and imagnative. The illustrations are the main reason I have a copy of the book. The illustrator should have her name on the cover of this book along with the author!

Interrupted Time Series Analysis
Published in Paperback by Sage Publications (December, 1980)
Average review score:

UNintimidating, compact, conciseIn one skinny unintimidating book that has less heft than an issue of TV Guide (that's physical heft, not literary worth), you get all the basics. Great place to start. Terms and equations are explained with simplicity. After reading just this book you'd be able to go do some time series analysis on your computer and have a clue what the output means.

Iraq: Babylon of the End Times?
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (01 March, 2003)
Average review score:

Excellent!!!FINALLY! A true and honest look at what the bible says concerning the end times! The authors do a wonderful job of dismissing myths about the need for Babylon to be rebuilt. My favorite chapter was chapter 5 in which they gave valid proof to disbelieve that Russia will ever attack Israel. Excellent. I would recommend this to everyone.

The Ladder: Parable-Stories of Ascension and Descension
Published in Paperback by Forest of Peace Books (December, 1999)
Average review score:

Do you have the will to climb the ladder?Ed Hays is swiftly becoming one of my favorite authors and the simple reason why is because he challenges me to think. Hays's method of story telling in this book is through the use of parables as, "Jesus, along with the Desert Mothers and Fathers, Zen masters, mystical rabbis, Sufi teachers and other great spirit-guides, have always pointed us toward the Promised Land of What-can-be." Now I am not trying to call this man a prophet or something greater, but just as these great teachers once did, Hays is doing for today. Providing those who are searching for an understanding or ways to solve the problems in our world today, (which cannot possibly be anything like they faced throughout all of history, ha!)insight into life with all its wonder, joys, and sorrow, that makes it such a great gift to be thankful for. I teach History and I love a good story, but I also teach Theology to seniors in high school and I have found on more than one occasion that reading just one story within this book can challenge my students to look beyond what is just in front of them and find that something which is greater.

A Lenten Hobo Honeymoon: Daily Reflections for the Journey of Lent
Published in Paperback by Forest of Peace Books (January, 1999)
Average review score:

Pack a bag...come along for a ride!I'm so thankful that Mary at our seminary bookstore recommended this book to me for my Lenten journey--my first introduction to Ed Hays. Though soundly grounded in the traditional and historic of Lent, from both Old and New Testaments, Hays then intriguingly and quite appropriately weaves tradition with the new--hobo language and symbols--which daily gives fresh perspectives and new direction to one's spiritual journey of transformation. And that doesn't have to be only at Lent! Lenten Hobo Honeymoon would also be a good resource for pastors of most denominations: it inspired my best sermon, including a unique Ash Wednesday liturgy and ritual.
